I’ve always loved baking. It’s been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up, my mother always had a fresh cake in the house. My grandmother, an avid baker, introduced me to homemade bread at an early age, and life was never the same.
When I started my own family, baking was naturally a part of my life with them, and of course hiding veggies in there every chance I get! I love baking for friends when they come over and always try to have a little something homemade for them. They leave feeling cared for and celebrated. I find baking gives that gift to those you bake for.
When the pandemic hit in March 2020, I was no longer able to travel to the UK and Europe to see my family, and they were no longer able to come see me. My brother and I started a sourdough starter as a way to connect. My mom and I started talking about our family recipes. Taking advantage of our large backyard garden, full of so many different fruits and vegetables thanks to my husbands green thumb, I was able to keep my family fed and healthy during the lockdown. Being a designer and artist, I began to get creative, adding my own touches to long standing family recipes. When faced with vast quantities of squash & beets I put my creative mind to making cakes that my children would eat so that I didn’t have to keep making soup!!!
In mixing childhood memories, family, a pandemic, a design career, and a backyard garden together, I’ve created Charlotte’s Home Kitchen. I hope you enjoy
